Australia has 32 law schools offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that are recognised in every state and territory in Australia, and in many jurisdictions outside this country. It is well-known that graduates of Australian law schools are much sought after by employers around the world. The main reason for this is the very high quality of the legal education they receive, regardless of the university they attend, or the state or city in which they live.

The expansion of our law schools has been accompanied by a significant increase in the number of international students studying law in Australia. Law teachers and domestic students very much welcome this development. International students have added new and exciting dimensions to Australian legal education. We have all been the beneficiaries of these changes.

May the increasing internationalisation of our law school students and curricula continue.

I believe that this valuable publication sponsored by the International Legal Services Advisory Council and supported by all Australia’s law deans, is one very important way of assisting in that process.

Chair,
Council of Australian Law Deans
