Changing your university

There is considerable useful information on the Australian Government’s website on enrolling and obtaining a student visa. You should have a close look at: http://studyinaustralia.gov.au

Ensure you satisfy the English language proficiency requirement

You will need to check if you have to undertake one of the English language proficiency tests, what standard you need to meet, where you can do the test, and what you should do with the results.

Enrol in a program
Once you have decided on your law school, you need to apply for admission in the program of your choice. To do that, go to the section Admission Enquiries and Handbook Information in the entry for that law school, contact the law school and ask them how to apply. They will send you the application form or, for some universities, you might be able to apply online.

Pay the tuition fee

The tuition fees for each of the law courses are set out in the fee schedule of the individual law schools. There is some information in each law school’s entry under the heading Course Fees, but it would be best to contact the law school to update and confirm the total fees.

Each Australian university determines its own rate of fees for international students, and you are strongly advised to obtain a statement of relevant fees from the institution where you wish to study.

Get a student visa

You will need to obtain a student visa to enter Australia and to stay for the period of your study. To do that you should contact the Australian High Commission or Australian Embassy in your country. They will tell you what is required and assist you in obtaining the visa.

You can apply for your visa after you have received a letter of offer, or electronic confirmation of enrolment, from the university you plan to attend.

You have to study full-time to obtain a student visa.

Generally, you will be issued with a multiple entry visa for the duration of your study which means you can travel back to your home country and return to Australia whenever you wish. Members of your immediate family (spouse and unmarried dependent children under 18 years) may accompany you to Australia.

Customs and Quarantine

Australia has strict requirements. See the Australian Customs and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service websites for more details.

Scholarships
You should enquire at the Australian High Commission or Embassy in your country as to whether there are any scholarships available.

Look at the entry for the university of your choice for more information.

Changing your university

If you decide to change your program and your university, remember that you must remain with the education provider with whom you originally enrolled for at least the first 12 months, unless you obtain permission from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to transfer. A transfer will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances.
